Fear – Psalm 11

http://biblia.com/books/esv/Ps11

David’s friends saw the power of the enemy and out of love of David suggested that he flee from them. He should hide in the mountains. Justice is nowhere to be seen according to them.

David saw the power of God and puts his trust in him. God is a stronger protector than the hiding places of the mountains.

We’re often tempted to run away from the things we fear.

Fear is forgetting that God still rules and that his justice will be the final word on all things.

Romans 8:31 (NIV84)

31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

My Refuge

Psalm 9:9–10 (NIV84)

The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

I wonder if David had in mind the “stronghold” of 1 Samuel 22:4 & 24:22? Some scholars think it was what we now call Masada. (I took this pic from the west side of Masada looking north toward the north end of the Dead Sea and toward the Jordan River Valley.)

The Spirit of God in you is a refuge for those you work with today.
